Real Projects

Case Studies

Three projects, three different jobs, one standard. This is what the full scope of work looks like when Avant-Garde runs your move.

White-Glove Manhattan Apartment Move

Location
Upper East Side to Tribeca
Move
3-bedroom apartment
Special items
Fine art + antique furniture
Crew
4 movers, 3 packers, 1 project manager
Services
Packing, custom crating, moving, unpacking
Building requirements
COI + reserved freight elevator

The Challenge

A full three-bedroom household with framed art and antique furniture, moving between two doorman buildings with strict rules: certificates of insurance on file at both addresses and a hard freight elevator window on each end.

How We Ran It

  • Walkthrough and inventory ahead of the move, with both buildings' COI requirements collected and certificates submitted in advance
  • Packing crew completed the full pack the day before moving day, with custom crates built for the art and blanket-wrap plus corner protection for the antiques
  • Freight elevators reserved at both buildings and the truck scheduled to each window, with floor and doorway protection laid at both ends
  • Unpacking, furniture placement and debris removal completed at the Tribeca residence the same day

The Outcome

The move ran inside both elevator windows with zero damage claims. The family slept in a fully set-up apartment that night, and neither building's management had a single issue to raise.

Private Collection Relocation with Custom Crating

Location
Chelsea to Greenwich, CT
Move
Private collection, 30+ works
Special items
Oversized canvases, bronze sculpture, framed works on paper
Crew
3 art handlers, 1 crate builder, 1 project manager
Services
Condition reports, custom crating, climate transport, installation
Building requirements
COI + service elevator on the Manhattan side

The Challenge

A collector consolidating a Chelsea apartment and storage unit into a new Connecticut home: dozens of works of varying size and fragility, several too large for the service elevator, and a client who wanted every piece documented before it was touched.

How We Ran It

  • Every work photographed and condition-documented before handling, with a shared inventory the client could review
  • Custom wooden crates built for the oversized canvases and sculpture; remaining works protected with three-layer art paper, shadow boxing and corner protection
  • Oversized pieces walked down via the stairwell with door and banister protection in place
  • Climate-aware transport to Connecticut, then uncrating, placement and hanging to the client's plan

The Outcome

Every piece arrived and was installed in its planned position with condition reports matching on both ends. The empty crates were removed the same day, and the collection was on the walls before the moving boxes were.

Full-Service Long-Distance Move, NYC to Florida

Location
Brooklyn to Miami, FL
Move
4-bedroom brownstone, full household
Special items
Upright piano, gym equipment, wine collection
Crew
5 movers, 2 packers, 1 move coordinator
Services
Full packing, dedicated truck, door-to-door delivery, unpacking
Building requirements
Street parking coordination in Brooklyn, HOA rules in Miami

The Challenge

A family relocating a full brownstone household thirteen hundred miles on a fixed closing timeline, with a piano, a wine collection that could not sit in a hot truck, and a delivery-side building with its own move-in rules.

How We Ran It

  • Two-day full pack ahead of the load date, with the wine inventoried and packed for temperature-sensitive transport
  • Piano boarded and secured by our piano crew as part of the same job, not a separate vendor
  • Dedicated truck, so the family's belongings rode alone with no consolidation and a committed delivery date
  • Delivery coordinated with the Miami building's requirements, followed by unpacking, reassembly and debris removal

The Outcome

Pickup and delivery both landed on the scheduled dates. The piano was tuned and in use the first week, and the family unpacked into a working home rather than a stack of boxes.
